Creating a business flyer

brochure

A flyer or brochure is one of the essential parts of marketing for a new, or existing business.

They may appear old-fashioned to some, especially with with social media and new technologies being developed at a rapid rate these days. BUT they are still a form of promotion that most people like to receive. They are tactile, they have an immediate response and reaction to the receiver, are directed towards a larger demographic of people, reaching those that may not be tech-savvy, and depending on the creative design, can be the make or break of a promotion.

Flyers can be anything from advertisements, menus, invitations, event announcements and the list goes on. A flyer can be tailored to any marketing purpose. BUT how do you create flyer that stands out from the rest? You need to consider so many elements, from the colours, to font, to the images used.

Make it eye-catching

If you’re walking by a tabletop promotion in a shopping centre, or its a letter-drop box, a flyer should hopefully entice you to stop and take a second look and not automatically inclined to send it to the trash! Which can so often be the case. The design may be just too busy, and you can’t work out what the business is about. Who hasn’t seen that umpteen times!

It is usually the visual element – the colour and image, that is created on the flyer that leads you one way or the other, of course along with the product, or business that is on offer.

Every design needs a clear focal point that draws a viewer into the design.

It could be an image, a headline or promotion, or other lettering that draws you in. The focal point of a design is usually the thing people notice first.

For that reason, it’s a good idea to make sure your focal point directs viewers to the most important information you have to communicate. Information needs to be easily found and not deter from too many other objects on the flyer.

So, when thinking about your next flyer, consider;

  • Content, including contact information - you wouldn't believe how many dont or forget this vital information!

  • Images required for the promotion - what are you selling ? What would grab interest to a buyer?

  • Style of flyer? Is it to be Double-sided, Tri-fold etc?

  • Your logo - do you have that already, or do you need to have one designed?

  • Colour(s) that may represent your business / product

  • Your audience
